ENQUIRE“MONOPRINTS - function as an exploratory and necessary extension of my painting practice. The printing process allows one to work quickly and intuitively, responding to an image and the plate with a sense of painterly lightness and immediacy.
I work with ‘found’ photographic images particularly from the recent past, reimagining and reconfiguring the image into scenes where, like memory: time, place and identity is uncertain and shifting. I believe that, like dreams, the image is a portal into multiple and ambiguous narratives with varying interpretations. There are echoes of the suburban domestic and studies of figures in nature and at leisure. The monoprint technique with its ability to both capture and dissolve an image seems to conjure the ephemeral qualities of a faded photograph or a cinematic moment.”
